Panic Stricken, Austin’s Widespread Panic tribute, Antone’s Nightclub, and FunkyBatz are thrilled to announce a very special show.

In addition to their usual Widespread Panic sets, Panic Stricken will play sets as the back up band for Daniel Hutchens of Bloodkin.

This will be the third time we have played with this great American singer-songwriter, but the first time in Austin. This is a can’t miss show for Widespread Panic fans and fans of Americana rock.

Daniel has been writing, recording, and performing his songs professionally since 1994. He has recorded and toured solo, as well as with his rock n roll band Bloodkin. He has also toured and recorded with Moe Tucker and Sterling Morrison of the Velvet Underground, appeared onstage with Lou Reed, Mike Mills, Government Mule, Allen Ginsberg, Drive-By Truckers, and the touring giants Widespread Panic (who have also recorded and regularly perform several Hutchens compositions). He has co-written songs with Widespread Panic, Jerry Joseph, David Barbe, and more. He has recorded with Johnny Sandlin, Roger Hawkins and David Hood of Muscle Shoals fame, John Keane, and David Barbe (eight records and counting).

Officially-released Hutchens compositions now number over 200, and counting unreleased material, the song catalogue has now passed 500 titles. Hutchens plans to release a book of lyrics, as well as a book of selected poems, journal entries and essays in 2018.

Justin Gage of AQUARIUM DRUNKARD has written of Daniel, “I put his catalog right up there with the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Alejandro Escovedo and Steve Earle in terms of truly capturing the nuances of humanity, both the light and the dark, in song…[Hutchens] is a national treasure.”

David Fricke wrote in ROLLING STONE that “There may be no better description of America’s original family values than Hutchens’ reference in the acid-country jangle of ‘Rhododendron’ to ‘A touch of Old Testament iron/And a whiff of wild rhododendron.’ ”

Stephen M. Deusner wrote of Hutchens’ songwriting in PITCHFORK: “As if the legacy of Faulkner or even the Beats were alive on vinyl rather than in ink.”

Bassist/producer Dave Schools said in Popmatters, “I’ve been very lucky…to work with genius songwriters like the guys in Widespread Panic, Vic Chesnutt, Jerry Joseph, Danny Hutchens, and Todd Snider. Their ability to render their emotions in words blows my mind on a daily basis.”

The newest Daniel Hutchens record, THE BEAUTIFUL VICIOUS CYCLE OF LIFE, was released on April 22, 2016. Produced by Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools and engineered by David Barbe, the release also features musicians Dave Schools, Duane Trucks, David Barbe, Jesse Aycock, Frank MacDonnell, Todd Nance, William Tonks, Eric Carter, and Thayer Sarrano.
