The North Mississippi Allstars are an American blues and southern rock band from Hernando, Mississippi, formed in 1996. The band was founded by brothers Luther Dickinson (guitar, lowebow, vocals) and Cody Dickinson (drums, keyboards, electric washboard, vocals). Their music is often described as a blend of blues, rock, and Southern soul, honoring tradition while blazing new trails.
The Allstars’ sound is heavily influenced by the rich musical heritage of North Mississippi, particularly local legends like R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, and also by their father, musician and producer Jim Dickinson. Their music incorporates elements from a diverse range of styles, including blues, rockabilly, hip-hop, and funk. The band’s debut album, “Shake Hands with Shorty”, released in 2000, was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album. They have received multiple Grammy nominations throughout their career.
